Kuramoto LatticeHow things fall into sync on their own. Every point is a little metronome ticking at its own rate; each one leans toward its neighbours’ timing. Turn the coupling up and the grid organises into spinning pinwheels — the same effect as fireflies flashing together or an audience clapping in unison.Winfree posed the puzzle in 1967; Yoshiki Kuramoto found the exact solution in 1975, one line per oscillator: dθ/dt = ω + K × (average pull of the neighbours). Below a critical K everyone drifts apart; above it, order snaps in. It now models power grids, pacemaker cells and neural rhythms.
