SmoothLifeConway's Game of Life with the pixels dissolved away: cells hold any value between 0 and 1, space and time are continuous, and a cell lives or dies by two soft averages — the density of a small inner disk and of the ring around it. From pure noise it settles into drifting blobs, wobbling rings and gliders that slide across the field forever. The journey: measure the ring density n and disk density m, then blend a birth window and a death window with a pair of sigmoids — s(n,m) — and step every cell toward 2s−1 by a small dt.
